As you’ve read by now, this week Legacy Five named the tenor replacing Frank Seamans. It’s Gus Gaches and we’re delighted to welcome this gentleman to our group. We’re really excited for you to hear him with us – his first concert is December 31, 2009 at the First Baptist Church, in Morristown, Tennessee – but until you can, here’s a little rundown on Gus.

Personally, I’ve never heard of parents naming their child Gus. Gus, according to Google is short for Augustine, Augustus, Angus or August.
There’re a lot of famous ‘Gusses’ and it’s a popular animal name. There’s even an enzyme named GUS that breaks down carbohydrates…but I digest…er digress.
So, I meant no harm when I asked him if Gus is his real name. And he meant no harm when he shouted, “Yes!”. He was named after his grandfather and, in fact, Gus has a 17 year old son also named Gus who, his dad says, is incredibly gifted.
So, Gus it is.
Hailing from Santa Rosa, California, Gus and his family moved to Nashville in 1991 for his job.
When I asked Gus who he had traveled with professionally, he replied, “It started with my wife and sister in a group called Stedfast. After that I spent five years with a Nashville based group called Calvary Construction Company. When I left there I was privileged to be asked by Terry Blackwood to sing with him, Joe Moscheo, and Sherman Andrus in The Imperials. I was with them for almost four years. It was during this time that I was asked to join the Lefevre Quartet. I had a great time singing with them for 3 years and now I am honored to be joining Legacy 5.” He’s been with nearly as many groups as I have! He’ll not live that down, trust me. Besides traveling, Gus is well known and respected in Nashville for his studio work both as an engineer and a studio singer.
Legacy Five is blessed to have so many friends who care about us and pray regularly for our families. So I asked Gus to introduce them to you: “I have a beautiful wife who I have been married to for 20 years. Her name is Tamra. I am blessed with the two greatest kids on the face of the earth, my son Gus, and my beautiful daughter Kylie. She is 12 going on 30! Our other family member in the house is our dog Chewy. He just turned 2.”
Gus is an avid hockey fan with loyalty to the Nashville Predators. “Love the Preds!,” he says. Just what we needed on the bus – another sports nut!
For answering my questions I must say, “Thank you, Mr. Gaches for being so gracious.” Now I’ve made enough fuss about Gus…which reminds me. In an earlier blog, I simply mentioned, “Get on the Bus, Gus.” Well, a dear friend saw my propensity for getting carried away with Gus’s name (WHO ME?) and chided me. Thanks to Sue Kovach for the setting me straight and for this reflection on “Gus and Bus”:
Hi dear Tim,
I know we’re in
For quite a ride
With Gus beside
You on the road
But in the mode
Of rhyming sound
Let peace be found
With words of rest
Please silence best
The tempting way
that phrases say
and thoughts reflect
His name connect
With Gus and bus,
To end it must.
I fear it starts
The path it marks
A legacy of puns
And fun.
Equal time
then you must find
For “Scotts” and Glenn
Your busy pen.
No end in sight
With thoughtful fright
The words must flow
On, on they go.
So, dear friend,
This plight must end
With Gus and bus
No more a must!
Your mind at ease
Sweet notes to please
Us all who listen
With hosts that glisten.
We’ll find our rest
With words that bless
And hearts akin
with our friend Tim.
Till We Meet Again,

Scott, evidently you do not know much about names in Scandinavia or in very Scandinavian Minnesota. Gus is a pretty common name around here–short for Gustaf or Gustav. I’m Norwegian, but I think Gustav is mostly a Swedish name. After all, it’s the name of that country’s king.

It is great to get to see your writing skills, coupled with your great sense of humor, out here for the whole world to see! I have been priviledged to be the recipient of a lot of notes over the years that I still look back on with a chuckle now and then. Best of luck and watch out Gus!! (The rest of you call him Tim Parton – I just call him my baby brother!)

Mixed emotions to say the least. We know that if you guys have chosen him, he must be special. I know that you always look to our Heavenly Father in your decisions. So I guess you could say he was heaven sent. We really look forward to hearing him. One thing I ask of you, so often when one moves on in your ministry you never hear any more about them. Please keep us informed of Franks son and his on going battle with his illness.
November 3, 2009 at 10:13 AM
Frank, you have been a blessing. We will miss you and continue to pray for you and your family. Gus, welcome to the family. We look forward to meeting you in Harrisonburg, VA in Feb. God bless you all L5.

Will always look forward to what God brings us, with praise and music. Continue the testimony; we will continue to pray for Frank Jr. Hope you keep us up to date on his prognosis

Looking forward to hearing your new tenor Gus. It’s also an added plus that he hails from Santa Rosa, California, as that is where I grew up also.
May God richly continue to bless your ministry.
God Bless ,

Welcome to the L5 Family Gus! Since our home is in Windsor, CA (next door to Santa Rosa) got to ask the $5M question…when is L5 coming to Sonoma County?
November 10, 2009 at 6:50 PM
Gus is a great guy and a superb tenor. I am sure you will grow to love him as much as we Imperials fans have done.
We’ll miss him so much, but I know he’s in good hands and he is so excited about the future.
